Hello all,

I'm a new mac user (G5), and I've seen the OSX utility cocktail mentioned here more than once.

Is this program essential in keeping a Logic 7 system stable? Any problems with the program? I'm running OSX 10.3.9?

Thanks,
Mike

There's more or less 2 things you have to do in a Mac:
Repair permissions
Cron scripts.
Repair permissions (which you can do in Utilities/Disk Utility) every time you install new software, especially 3rd party software that came with certain hardware. With big programs like Logic sometimes it's convenient to repair permissions before you even install it.
OSX checks your disk and system files every time you boot your Mac anyway so no worries there.
For the cron scripts you can use MacJanitor for free (Cocktail isn't), you'll find it in versiontracker.
These are scripts that the Mac would do by itself it were on and not sleeping around 3 or 4 in the morning.
Run these when you worked with a lot of files during the week, including audio. I do them once a week not more.
OSX is usually "self-healing" so there's no need for other 3rd party utilities, like Norton or Drive10 (something like that), so stay away from those.
OSX doesn't need defragmentation like in Windows because it optimizes the drive every time you update the system software or install new programs, so let it be.
That's it. Have fun with OSX and welcome to the Mac!
