I caught the end tail of a commercial tonight while trying to avoid finishing up schoolwork. It was a crowd singing along to an old Muppet Show tune that I remembered as a kid but never could find the song on album (or MP3).

Luckily, hearing the last line, I googled the lyrics and somehow found this:

http://rulzofpunk.fr...os/manamana.wmv

Ya need Windows Media Player to hear it -- it works well on the Mac (at least for this file).

Anyone up for a remix???

Note: if this is on an album -- let me know and I'll buy it. If not, I don't see anything wrong with a 2 minute clip of a 20 year old television show as it clearly falls unto fair use (anyone know if the old Muppet Shows are on DVD either???? I'd love to get that *CACA!!*!).

Doesn't that tune pre-date SS? I seem to recall it being a regular occurance on the Red Skelton Show. Oh my, I just dated myself, huh?

oh, and thanks Clif - now that damn song's gonna be stuck in my head for a week!

Yeah, that song definitely pre-dates the SS crew. I'll do some research and find out it's title.

It definitely predates S.S. but didn't Jim Henson do some skit on the Ed Sullivan show in the late 60's to this tune, a different recording than Clif's video clip? Also wasn't there a fast version of this tune for one of those fast motion Benny Hill sequences?

After sending this link to a couple friends, one of them called me at 5AM this morning to tell me to turn on my TV.

It was a Dr. Pepper Commercial thats using this song. Something about a cute chick is out with some hot guy and he's sitting there talking about Why Yes, I Am A Doctor...I enjoy working in a children's hospital even though most people would have quit after winning the lottery -- and then they zoom behind the girl into her perspective where she's looking dreamily at her Dr. Pepper and looks up at the guy and you see that she isnt hearing a damn word he's saying and its just coming out Manamana and the guys in the background are singing the Doo dooo do doo dooo's.

I gotta buy a case of the Pepper now as I owe's it to them for digging this stuff up.

But yeah -- its stuck in my head now....dammit!!!

Clif,

'Manamana' is indeed a track on the original Muppets 'soundtrack' album. I've got a copy of that album (vinyl) but, unfortunately, it crackles quite a lot. By the way, that song used to be one of my daughter's favourite songs when she was about 1 year old. We 'sang' it for hours on end.

When I was a kid, I was in a cafe with a jukebox that had this song on it. I put in 50 pence and set the song playing about 15 times over. In the end, the cafe owner pulled the plug out because of the complaints! I was a little twat in those days. smile.gif

You'll find this song on the first Muppets album as re-peat has said. A classic, just like "Eating a Tyre to the Tune of the Flight of the Bumble-Bee" and "Hugga Wugga".

I remember a video version of this song with the Manha-manha part being sung by a bunch of muppet flowers in a garden. Oscar gives it more additude.

Being the youngin' that I am, I've never seen that before... I'm very glad it was brought up. It's too funny! But way too catchy... When I lay down to go to sleep tonight, I know that it'll be running through my head. By tomorrow it may be torture... laugh.gif
