James 'the Amazing' Randi, master magician, incredible illusionist, Cable Caller-Outter??? Long known for challenging charlatans who claim mystic powers like Uri Geller (isn't this Ross and Monica Geller's insane uncle on 'Friends'...oh no, he just seems fictional) and other psychics, faith healers and the assorted idiot.
Now, he turns to a subject I hold dear -- audio equipment -- especially the interconnecty bits that route the sound around from one device to another. I've long since believed that with enough signal, rusted barbed wire would probably sound just as good as Monster Cable (*), but Randi goes a step further. He has actively challenged $300+ a foot cable manufacturers that their cables sound as good as the not-quite-as-expensive-but-you-are-still-an-idiot-if-you-buy-it Monsters, and has put up a Million Dollars of his own money if the manufacturers can identify their own cable in a double blind test.
After reading audiophile Dave Clark's review of the Anjou speaker cables (only $2750.00 for a three foot pair!!! I'll take a dozen!!!) in which they were described as danceable, The Amazing Randi offered Pear Cable, the manufacturer of said Anjou, if they themselves could tell the difference. Lot of bickering back and forth with Randi taking a pragmatic Put Up Or Shuddup approach all the way and Adam Blake, CEO of Pear, acting like a weasel the entire time.
Oh how sorted...Randi has proven that he is not just a giant among men in the pseudo-psychic world, but also the music world. Maybe he can combine the two sides of his current personality and put a stop to that nutcake Madonna and her freakish Kabal-O-Rama-Dama-Ling-Long crap.

There's one person that can tell the difference between Pear cables and others. The guy that paid for them.
Love the review.
"In the midrange, if push came to shove, I would say that compared to the other cables the Anjous create a slightly leaner and less full or rich sound"
You mean they make a speaker that has a full, rich sound in just the mids? Say goodbye to woofers and tweeters.
"One could argue that what they are presenting is related to the Anous being more linear than the other cables"
I think he means that the Anjou cables laid in more of a straight line than the others.
I'll stop now. There's just too much BS in there to comment on.

"Music playing through them results in the proverbial foot tapping scene with the need or desire to get up and move. Great swing and pace—these cables smack that right on the nose big time."
I didn't realize that some wire could cause foot tapping or great swing and pace. I always thought it was music that did that. Now I know what I've been doing wrong all these years...I should ditch all my instruments and get myself a spool full of cable.

Smoke is the thing that makes electrical circuits work; we know this to be true because every time one lets the smoke out of the electrical system, it stops working.

My faves among the overpriced cable maker BS claims are for digital interconnects.
You know...the "hand-rolled on the backs of Greek virgins by blind nuns who live exclusively on a diet of malt scotch and llama droppngs - make our cables sound better" type of thing.
It's a digital interconnect - it either works or it doesn't!
Sure...there can be differences over long runs...but most of this BS is talking about 1 to 2 metre long (that's 3 to 6 feet for you heathen Americans) cables.
