Hi, this is my first post on this forum, and I have a question about the the 2600. I have noticed that there are purple 2600s, and ocassionally I see black and gray 2600s. I am going to purchase a 2600, but I only want the black and gray model. Can anyone tell me how I can tell which model I am ordering when I make my purchase. I will probalby be purchasing the 2600 from either musician's friend or american musical supply. Also who has the best prices on the 2600X model. Thanks

First of all, welcome to Sonikmatter.

The purple look is the older classical look. Kurzweil is currently making the black version only. If I were you I'd specify that I want the black one, which most likely will be the default color. For those with a preference in purple, they should specify this color, but I doubt the stores carry both colors.

Did they start producing black versions because some guys complained about that lovely shade of purple? wink

Purple rules!

Yeah -- I'm a little irked.

I'd been borrowing one of KurzRep's personal 2600's over the last few months and its a nice purple color. Now that I have a black one coming my way, I'm a bit saddened. It stood out in my collection...the black is just going to look like all the rest of the boxes...oh well, thats what air brushes are for.

I know some guys that have successfully done a custom-painted Kurz here and there and there were ideas thrown around about opening it as an extra service to our customers if they were so inclined. I don't know the details about it, and it'll prolly never happen, buuuuuuuuut...

Would anyone seriously be interested in getting your Kurz custom painted? If so, what do you think would be a fair asking price for a service like this?

Depends, but let me know when you find what a good camouflage green goes for. I'm thinking of mounting a howitzer, too. Actually, I want to be able to control the gun with MIDI continuous controller messages. Just imagine this, Saddam Hussein, brought to his knees with a K2600.

Another idea I had was to paint it gold and put it behind a curtain and then Toto pulls the curtain back, you see Geosynch triggerring samples. Da Dahhh.....Dah Dahhh...Pay no attention to the keyboard player behind the curtain.

P.S. These are the kind of ideas that kept me out of the better universities.

About how long ago did they change the colors to black with gray? Does anyone know of any links to pictures of this new look? I imagine I would like that better since colors tend to get on my nerves or distract me, or something like that. It seems like black, white, and grays seem to be neutral emotionally so they are more relaxing and none invasive. Do you all sense stuff like that or am I on the brink of insanity. hehe! That purple and blue was really cool looking though, likely to make it a collectors classic some day.

Heh! I made sure to request Purple from Kurtzvile when ordering my 2600 a few months ago and KurtzRep said NO BLACK OR NO SYNTH!!! smacking me around -- but he came though and found me a purple one -- VERY surprised to see it when opening the box.

I personally don't see why folks hated the color -- it was a dark color to begin with and ya don't notice it until being right up one it. Its good to have colors that identify something immediately. I think Purple should have stayed on as the official color (though I think they should have paid us for the color selection because on our last redesign we choose purple over a dozen other colors our designer gave us and what exact shade did the 2600 come out in -- the one you see above -- I think it was a conspiracy tongue.gif )

I personally thought that the purple 2600 was a great idea. Lime green would have been more enticing...... at least it wasn't silver!

What colors do you see when you close your eyes and just play your 2600?
