Apple has just released the final build of OS X 10.4.9. Anybody here have the gall to try it yet? I just moved over from Panther to Tiger about a week ago, so I'm not going to risk my brand new install on this update yet...until some of you brave souls give it a go.

Who's jumping first?

If it's for Intel too, I'll dl it next time I fire up the mac.

iTunes won't import from mounted disk images anymore - can anyone else confirm?

I installed 10.4.9.

Of course, auval and Logic are trying to scan my Audio Units and, or course, has frozen on the third one: Reaktor FX.

Anyone surprised?

-- edit --
The fix seems to be to force quit the auval using the old trusty 'option command esc' and then it picks right back up and completes the scan.

Up & running. No more problems so far.

I had a quick look through the apple doc linked above - can't see anything audio specific or anything else that tempts me. Well if they really have improved .Mac and iDisk speeds that would be something, but it's not exactly exciting!

Things are stable for me in 10.4.8 - I don't think I'll be updating til Leopard is released.

I think that Apple have fairly radically changed something in the AU validation. I now have at least 10 plug-ins that will not pass validation any more, whereas previously they did.

Had a moment of panic wher i was asked for my xskey serial, but a restart sorted that out. Have had no problem with validation of Liquid mix, wavearts, nomad factory or autotune 5.

I just received an e-mail form Mr. Lindemann ('Synful' developer) containing the following important information regarding the latest version of OSX:

QUOTE
Dear Synful Customer,

We received the following announcement from PACE the providers of our copy protection technology for MAC. Briefly, if you are using an Intel Mac and want to update from MAC OSX 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 you should do so using the COMBO update. DO NOT use the automatic Software Update in MAC OSX. This problem will affect ALL PACE protected products not just Synful. These include Digidesign, Waves, and many other software music products. We have not experienced this problem directly ourselves but felt we should forward this message from PACE to all of our customers.

Thank you,

Eric Lindemann

===WARNING FROM PACE===

New issue:
After updating from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 using Software Update, all InterLok protected Mach-O Intel or Universal binary applications will crash at launch. This affects all Intel-based Macintoshes, but not PPC-based ones.

Workaround:
Download and install the combo update from Apple.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304822

If you used the combo update instead of Software Update, you'll never see the problem. If you are now seeing the crash, installing the combo update afterwards will fix it.

Although we tested InterLok with every 10.4.9 seed build, seeds are delivered as a combo. Thus we were not able to test Software Update as a delivery mechanism, as Apple does not provide a way to do this.

Naturally we immediately escalated this issue to our contacts at Apple. They have reproduced it and are working on a solution. It is likely that the solution will be a rev to Apple Software Update, we'll keep you updated when we have further news.

I ran the 10.4.9 update on my main system. The only casualty is the TC PowerCore Decrackle plug-in. It keeps crashing the AU validation. I'll trash the receipt files for the update and try from the d/l'ed combo update and see what's up.

It appears I'm in luck. No probs here so far; all plugins validated, and none of them have caused any crashes yet.

David!
Do you have the Sonalksis bundle?
I'm just being cautious but I use the Sonalksis as my main EQ/press plugg.
I'm curios if PSP and Spectrasonics work too...

Nope. My only commercial plugins are Elemental Audio, Roger Nichols and Ohmforce, full packages for all of them.

BTW, on second investigation it appears that my shutdown keyboard shortcut, ctrl-alt-apple-eject, is broken. Nothing happens when I try it. Not a big issue, but a bummer none the less.

I am not David but I have all the Sonalksis and Spectrasonics and most of the PSP and they are all working fine after the update.

I think I know what the problem is!
Apple have induced a little "latency" to the EJECT button so you won't eject something by mistake, something that is very common on the laptops.

So just try to hold the keys down for a second or so.

Any Luck?

Ok...
I updated to 10.4.9 and everything seems to work well except the MONO versions of Sonalksis SV-515 and SV-517 dry.gif dry.gif dry.gif the Mk2 works just fine.
Can anyone else confirm this?

I'm on a Dual G5.
Lagerfeldt
Yes, I can confirm that. Old Sonalksis bundle won't validate...

Also the latency on the Eject button is confirmed here too. Pretty f*cking annoying since I use it to shutdown (ctrl+eject).

Waves are all fine here, although Waves do *not* recommend updating to 10.4.9.

I've been meaning to thank you for this well-working advice, but everytime I remembered it was because I had just succesfully shut down my computer ... now I'm on my PC, so I can finally get to it.

Holger, doesn't it work for you when holding the eject button down a little longer?
PaulyD
Welp. Deleted my user Cache folder and all my OS X update receipts. Downloaded and installed the OS X 10.4.9 Combo update on my Dual 2.5GHz G5/LP7.2.3 setup. Same result. TC PowerCore Decrackle is b0rken, though I can still use it after checking it in the AU Manager window. All of my iLok-dendent plugs are working fine though.

Makes me wonder if Apple isn't clamping down on AU plug-in developers now to pave the way for things to come...Yeah. That's how I keep a sunny disposition...

These problems are due to the "auval" tool. It hasn't changed since the first version of Tiger was released. Now Apple are giving us a preview of how things are going to work in Leopard.

If you still have your Tiger install disc handy, you can reinstate the auval tool from the DVD back on to your 10.4.9 installation. That will allow any plug-ins that previously passed validation to work again. Here's how to do it. Be aware that you will need to know the root password to do this.
  1. Insert your Tiger install DVD
  2. Start a Terminal window.
  3. Type "cp /usr/bin/auval Documents/auval". This step is a precautionary measure in case you need to put back the updated version of auval. It copies the updated version of auval to your own "Documents" folder.
  4. Type "sudo cp /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/usr/bin/auval /usr/bin/auval". You will now need to enter the root password. This step copies the original version of auval back into the /usr/bin folder where it lives.
You should now run Logic and start the Logic AU Manager and rescan those naughty plug-ins that don't work now but did before. They should now pass the test like a dream and you can use them again without that nag box coming up.

If you need to put the newer version of auval back, start a Terminal window and type "sudo cp Documents/auval /usr/bin/auval" and enter the root password again.

Thanx for this John!
It might become helpfull with some old projects!

thank you so much John. The au validation is working like a charm (as you promised) once I reinstalled old Tiger auval file.

thank God for people like you, who know your sh#t.
