With this 2 for 1 deals I'm looking to get some Pre-christmas present for myself smile.gif and Goliath is one of the things i'm looking at, Is it absolutely great? How about SD2, that's my Second choice Do they sound and function well? Ministry of Rock, and Voices of Passion would be my next pick, Do the new Play libraries all come 24 bit resolution? I hope so

Please let me know if anybody has any of these, and your opinions..

Thanks

Paul,

I have none of the ones you mention - 'Gypsy' and 'FabFour' are the only PLAY libraries I own - but, from what I've read, 'Goliath' is terrific value. If you're in the market for that type of thing - a comprehensive library that offers a bit (or, in the case of 'Goliath': a good deal) of everything - 'Goliath' might well be the best choice currently available.
StormDrum2 has been rapturously received as well although quite a few users - mostly PC-based musicians, it must be said - are still having serious problems with it, despite several updates and bugfixes which have been released since the library originally appeared.

The PLAY-engine still seems to cause opposing reactions though: many people have no problems with it at all, while others have nothing but problems trying to get it to work. One thing that's certain though, is that you need a pretty powerful and solid machine in order to get the most out of it.

Goliath is Colossus with a bunch of extra stuff. I have Colossus and it's got some pretty good stuff in there. Especially good are the guitars - lots of them and some very cool stuff. Every now and then I discover something new in Colossus that suprises me. Like everyone raved about the sampletekk Marimba, so I bought it, but ended up using the Colossus Marimba because I preferred it. I still use the old Kompakt interface on a G5 though, even though I have Kontakt. the Kompakt interface is simple and intuitive and that's what I like about it. I think some of these upgrades become to complex - in an effort to get more money from people by giving them more bells and whistles they make the interfaces too daunting. I like interfaces that just let me dial up a sound and away I go. I'll be sticking with my G5 for a while longer for that reason. eg Omnisphere vs Atmosphere!

Thanks a Ton you guys, I own Gypsy myself Peat, and I absolutely LOVE the way it sounds, Play engine is Killing my machine Prossesor wise, especialy on my favorite Patch "violin" smile.gif but it is drop dead gorgeous!!! and that is why I'll be upgrading to a newer machine in near future, I'm running PPC dual 2.5 and more often I run in the situation where I don't have enough power.

The reason I'm looking into buying Goliath is because of the sale from sounds online, that way I can get 4 libraries for the price of 2 its very resonable, Colossis always attracted me, but I never really bought it, because probably I have so much stuff already, though I got to tell you Omnisphere is probably by far the best invention of 2008, it sounds absolutely INSANE smile.gif

I feel a bit ripped off about this whole Play engine, it's not that much better but it requires faster computer, and for that reason I'm considering an 8 core at least, what i'm holding my fingers crossed is for better and updated machine in january so I can get the lates.

As far as libraries go, the New eastwest play instruments are pretty cool, their demo's sound great too, I've just never got into colossis.

Do you guys know if Goliath is all 24 bit?

Thanks

Paul,

Some of Goliath's content is 24-bit, some isn't. There's 15 gigabytes of new sounds, recorded at Ocean Way, which is 24-bit, but the other stuff (the material form older libraries which they've included) probably isn't, although I'm not entirely sure.
